In recent years, community designers have added features to the community that will not be maintained by the municipality. To pay for these, each homeowner is required to belong to a Home Owners Association (HOA) and pay an annual membership fee. The HOA has no ownership stake in your property, although is an encumbrance on your property title. It specifies the annual fees, special neighborhood restrictions and architectural controls. The details of your HOA are in the Bylaws of the Association which are filed with the Societies Branch of Service Alberta and are available for a fee from any registry office.
